Last year the "Road to Brookings" story was highlighted by a very early morning trip to a closed airport.  This year the "Road to Brookings" story was highlighted by falling out of the festival committee's good graces and not making the flying list. So Vanna got packed and her transmission blessed as best we could and we drove to Brookings. One of the highlights was hearing the stories surrounding Brian's family history in Eureka. It was fun traveling with the grandson of such a dignitary. The other major highlight was the ocean. I had missed it so much and being able to gaze out as far as the eye could see on such a site mile after mile made the journey very enjoyable. Driving also meant a stop at a casino and a stop at the lighthouse. Brian takes good care of his guests!!!! The festival had several of my favorite kite personalities in attendance and it was a great time. My thanks to all the sponsors and to the great support from the citizens of Brookings.

Between Squaw Valley and Brookings, Brian and I flew at Berkeley before hitting Genghis Khans for sushi.

Berkeley is so wonderfully cool.

Tom had his kite store all painted and handsome. Well done, Tom!!!

Opening festivities at Brookings included a picnic for the flyers. Brian, Sandy, and some Sundowners.

Al and Rod, two of the best!!!

Jose, Scott, John and Ron

Scott's incredible bumble bee. I love that kite.

I went with a color theme while flying on Saturday.

Noodle ready for its turn.

The turn came but the wind didn't so it became a della porta sky.

The Bragel stable of Lenzen kites.

Sundowners getting prepared for their performance.

Jose readying his stack. Yep, Jose is a Sundowner these days.

More Sundowner preparation.

Sundowner preparation pays off and they perform fantastically.

Jose's Grand National Kitemaking Championship Kite. I love that kite too.

The Thrall's teddy bear wowing the crowd.

Barry standing at the ready to help fly kites during a walk through.

Kites by Gibian, Skinner, Sainz. Oh my.

Ron and Sandy's kites are always fantastic.

A mass ascension of five sided kites. Very impressive.

I was lucky enough to fly one of Scott's kite in the mass ascension. I was honored.

The banquet and auction was held at the Best Western Motel. Made it convenient for folks staying there.

The food was great and everyone had a good time.

Scott is such a good guy. Must be the result of those long North Dakota winters that helped fire his character. lol

A giggle from the banquet.

Jose's garage.

A new tradition was started in honor of Sam Huston.

Everyone was in a celebratory mood.

Thank you to the Freeman's for their fantastic support of the festival.

The auction is well underway.

Tequila anyone?

Happy ladies.

Thanks Brian for getting me to Brookings.

Ron and Ron.

Rhonda had a blast.

Mr. Kitelife...handsome as usual.

Poster from the event.

The master whacker.

I so enjoy watching Brian fly. He is the best.

Only Brian can fly a broken kite and finish the routine.

You are amazing.

The crowd appreciate the valiant effort.

Scott's kites are so great.

WOW! Beautiful!

Oh yea, I needed to include the purple one!!!

Brian doing a quick repair.

Rod's crowns impressing the crowd.

Aren't the cat and dog too cute.

Mr. Gomberg in full control.

An attempt at an artsy photo.

It was a successful event. Thanks Brookings for having us.

One of the "pinch me" moments. Sharing the sky with Jose. Yea, it was a good time.
