A new event was added to the kite calendar for 2005. Shiverfest was organized by Nels Nelson from Devils Lake, ND as a means to showcase kiteskiing, kites in general, and one of the most phenomenal ice venues that any kite flier could imagine. Distances on Devils Lake are measured in miles not feet, other than the measurement of the ice which when the festival was there averaged a 3 foot depth. Even I, the ice chicken of chickens, was comfortable driving Vince my van out on the ice. The event was well organized and fliers treated like royalty. Thank you to everyone for their hospitality. Special hugs and kisses are sent out to Don Murphy and Betty Suhr for making the trip from Nebraska to color the North Dakota sky and share birthday wishes with me. You both do "friendship" at the top notch level. Thank you.

What a great surprise to have Don and Betty show up for the festival. Thanks my friends.

A scene only a northerner could love.

Vince on the ice. He thought he was kind of cocky walking on water that was 40 feet deep. Good that three feet of ice separated Vince from the water.

Dot in the sky is Mike Gee's foil. Dot on the ice is the four wheeler pulling the foil to keep it airborne.

Mike Gee holding my new sentinel so I could get a picture. Ramlal Tien designs the most amazing kites.

Mike Gee on the move. The light wind allowed kites to be pulled back and forth across the lake. Nice festival advertisement.

"Wait, where are you going with that kite."

Don Guick from Winnipeg assuring Mike his kite would be returned someday.

Zen II loved the gentle breeze.

Mike Gee launching his foil.

It was a della porta sky. Zen II and Brule Thunder sat like thumbtacks for several hours.

Hooking another kite up for launch. The trilobyte is visible in the background being pulled by another snowmobile.

Nephew Dave and Jason enjoyed messing with the skytiger.

A little different than the Rev II he flew years and years ago. You did great Dave.

This was Jason's first time flying a kite. Well done.

Hey, that's MY 125 up there. Ain't he handsome!!!

Dave and Jason getting some tips from a Winnipeg flyer. Warms an auntie's heart to see kite handles in her nephew's hands.

Bird and della portas

Thanks guys for spending some time with me on the ice.

Kite festival organizer Nels Nelson with Winnipeg Kite Fliers Alice and Don Guick. Great to see you again.

Nels and I.

Several of us did the buffet at the casino for dinner, played the machines some, then settled in at the dome house for some friendly chat.

A tired Mike Gee after putting in some hours of kite skiing after regular festival hours.

Vince with the dome house in the background. Nice to be able to share time with friends all in one space.

See you at Skydance perhaps?

The crew at the pub.

Sunday morning breakfast. Yummy.

Sentinel was a great flyer.

Native North Star flying in the northland.

A successful weekend...especially with Vince getting off the ice safely.
