14th Annual
Skydance Sakakawea
Kite Festival 2006
The number fourteen has always been
a lucky number for me. So I had every confidence going in that Skydance #14 was
going to be a good one. My guest list was top notch, flying field groomed,
location as pretty as it gets, and everyone ready for summer to finally get
kicked off in fine style. No one was disappointed. The weekend was as good as it
gets with great flying and great crowds. My guests started arriving on Friday
and a few kites were launched even though the wind was typical prairie and
blowing quite fiercely. Mike Shaw, Mike Gee, Don and Betty Murphy, Tony and Ann Killip,
Mark Ehlan, and Chris Dodson showed up in Garrison ready to work hard to provide the
best kite show possible.
Saturday was an outstanding day with
good winds and good crowds. Dick Messerly accepted the kite I made as a thank
you for taking such great care of the festival. Rena
Rustad won People's Choice for "Skippy". Mark Ehlan won his choice of kites in
the raffle. Kyle's Catering served nummy ribs and chicken to my guests.
Sunday was rainy so most folks left the flying field
by 1pm. Everyone did gather back at the campsite later in the evening for a fun
meal and good conversation. Monday was a clear day
with good winds. Mike, Rena, Tony, and Ann put lots of color in the sky and a
good time was enjoyed by all attendees. Mike Shaw received the People's Choice
award for his big kite and Tony and Ann helped support the festival by
purchasing the kite Mike made for the raffle.
Thanks again to everyone who made Skydance a successful event.
