My journey to Brookings for the July festival took on a very different character this year when Brian was kind enough to let me stay at San Ramon after the lighthouse festival allowing me to save the expense of my usual several days in Lincoln City. The Brookings Port Authority also helped greatly by paying for my flight from San Francisco to Crescent City. Little did I know that I would also get to spend some time in Medford, Oregon and take a three hour bus ride from Medford to Crescent City. How lucky could I get. The unscheduled stop in Medford was the result of a pilot not willing to chance a landing in Crescent City and allowed me to see parts of Oregon that I didn't even think I would get to see.  And in the UNairconditioned bus, I'm still not sure it was necessary to see that part of Oregon at all. But it was an exciting side-light to the festival and makes for good memories. The remainder of the weekend proved to me memory filled as well. As always, it was an honor for me to be included among such a great list of kitefliers. The accommodations were great and the company fantastic. Thank you to everyone that made the invitation possible and I look forward to celebrating the third weekend of July in Oregon with all my friends, new and old, next year as well.

Ron and Sandy Gibian entertained the crowd by bringing "Millie" out of the bag to grace the sky. What an amazing kite!!!!

Steve, you are the heart of the Brookings festival. Thanks for your friendship.

Brian keeping in cybertouch with his fans.

Steve and Ron working the crowd with the kite I donated to the auction.

Rod Thrall in conversation with Brian. I wish I knew half of what these guys know about kiteflying.

What an honor to be able to meet Randy Tom. And Sandy, it is always good to share festival time with you!!

Mark Lummas, Carl and Lisa Bragel, Jon Barressi, Moon, and Al Stroh...stars one and all.

The power behind the Brookings festival.

Mary, John, and Gary...truly great kite folk!

The storytelling was deep after the first day of flying. Here Sandy and Al laugh over something Ron said, or was it over Brian's fried bird story?

Notice Susan Shampo in the corner...she is always aglow.

Berry Poulter's kites waiting for their time in the sky. It was a pleasure meeting you Berry.

The Bay Area Sundowners are always amazing.

Carl Bragel with "Dark Thunder". It makes me happy that my kite found a home in Oregon. Now if I could just find a home there too. Sigh.

A sample of Randy Tom applique. I have so much to learn.

A Gibian kite, always a crowd pleaser.

A look down banner row.

My favorite kiteflier getting ready to whack for the spectators entertainment. You are the best Brian.

The whitebird was the hit of the festival. Too bad its twin met with such a tragic fate.

Zen II floating out over the river.

It was the treat of my weekend when the bird and Zen took a walk to the ocean. Thank you Brian.

Goodbye Pacific. I'll see you in October.

Thanks for a good summer and for putting up with me.

The bird handled well in such expert hands.

That is MY Gibian kite. Whoo hooo!!!!

Brian's #1 signed Gibian kite...I got #2. Thanks Ron and Sandy.

The end of another fine flying weekend.
